Many
questions come to mind when considering when and where to place a
loved one for dementia care. Here are the answers to several questions
we often hear at Arbor Springs.
Q. How is Arbor Springs different?
A. We
care entirely for persons with Alzheimer’s
disease and related dementia. Our facility, social programming, staff
training, caregiving techniques, and medical treatment are all designed
specifically for this purpose.
Q. How is Arbor Springs different
from a Special Care Unit?
A. There are some similarities, but the differences
are noteworthy. Our state-of-the-art facility design with its new,
larger space provides more flexibility so our residents can stay
with us throughout the disease process.
Q. What services
are available?
A. We have staff available to offer
everything from meals and snacks to daily housekeeping, and personal
assistance with activities such as bathing and dressing. Our medical
professionals even make "house calls."
Q. How
do I prepare my loved one for a move?
A. We do it together. Each person is unique, so
it is important that the family share everything they can with us
about their loved one. Then we can help find just the right approach
to prepare your loved one for the move.
Q. How will my loved one make
the transition?
A. It takes about a month for a resident to adjust
to his or her new surroundings. The key to a smooth transition is
for the family to feel comfortable with the staff and neighborhood
environment. The resident will follow your lead.
Q. How is the family involved
in Arbor Springs?
A. We encourage families to take an active role
in their neighborhood family, and we suggest families use Arbor Springs
as a source for renewal. In addition, you can join the Family Mentor
Program and the Life Story book project.
Q. How do I place my loved
one at Arbor Springs?
A. Several staff
members are available to help you through the admission process.
We give you a booklet that explains details of our step-by-step
process, and we also have resident families who can share their
experiences with you.
